DIVISION 9 UPDATE
Time to turn over new leaf M any happy memories have been made at Jimboomba’s Rotary Park, but there’s always room to make more. Council is seeking the community’s ideas on how to make the popular park even better for local families. The park, constructed in 1991 by the Rotary Club of Jimboomba, features public barbecues, toilets, shaded seating and a large children’s playground including a wheelchair accessible swing. Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan says it is now time for the park’s next chapter. ‘Rotary Park is ready for a makeover, but we want the community to help us decide what’s needed next,’ Cr Bannan says. ‘We’re talking new lights or more parking, a dog off-leash area, extra shade to kick back and relax in, or even a fitness zone for our gym buffs – anything that could make our park more user-friendly. ‘The survey runs March 10 to 30, so grab a cuppa and give us your thoughts.’ Division 9 residents are also invited to give feedback on their favourite existing features of Rotary Park, to help Council decide what to preserve. Spotlight shining on safety at football club and almost every night of the soccer
J imboomba’s soccer stars are about to shine even brighter. The switch will be flicked this year for a major lighting upgrade for the Jimboomba United Football Club (JUFC). New solar lighting will be installed in the carpark of the Kurrajong Road facility to boost night-time visibility. An existing Energex-owned light pole will also be upgraded to brighten the club entrance. Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan says the upgrade will support players, coaches, volunteers and spectators. ‘These lights will be a game changer for JUFC, which is working hard to make soccer accessible to everyone,’ Cr Bannan says. ‘They never slow down out here. They’ve got more teams every year
season they’re out, training hard. ‘The least we could do was tap into that energy, crank up the lights and make their training sessions that much safer.’ New ‘No Camping’ signs will also be installed at the facility to deter unwelcome visitors from using the grounds at night. JUFC President Tatijana Lam says thanks to some ‘Matildas magic’, the growing club now has 50 teams, including 8 all-female teams. ‘Our girls and women’s teams in particular will benefit from better lighting during their night-time training sessions,’ Tatijana says. ‘We are grateful for the Council's support in helping make our club safer and more welcoming for everyone.’
